Your privacy is important to us. Our privacy policy is intended to describe how and what data we collect, and how and why we use your personal data. It also describes options we provide for you to access, update or otherwise take control of your personal data that we process. We abide by UK Law and our data protection regulator within the UK is the Information Commissioners Office www.ico.org.uk.

Advertising

We never allow any third-party advertising on this website.

Cookies

A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a website’s computers and stored on your computer’s hard drive. This website only uses cookies for Google Analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics without affecting how you visit this site. (For more information on opting out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites you use, visit this Google page: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.) If you wish to remove cookies that are already on your computer, please refer to your Internet browser’s help and support area for instructions on how to delete cookies.

How we use Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics tracking on this website to understand how the website is being found and used, and to help us improve the user experience. We never use the Google Analytics User-ID feature (which tracks an individual’s use of a website across multiple sessions). We never use any Google Analytics Remarketing or Advertising Reporting features (we keep these features permanently switched off). Overall, no PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is available to us through Google Analytics reporting.

Personal details we collect via forms on this website and how we use the information

The contact forms on this website, which allow users to send messages to us if they wish, are as follows:

  • Our general contact form allows users to send messages to either The Estate of Francis Bacon or our online shop. In this form we ask for a user’s name, email address and feedback (text only), so that we can receive and respond to comments and questions. We only use the name and email address to allow us to respond to the questions or comments by email. We would not pass on or publish the messages we receive in any way without first gaining approval from the user who submitted the message.

  • Feedback form on the Francis Bacon Teaching and Learning Resource page. In this form we ask for a user’s name, email address and feedback (text only), so that we can receive and respond to comments on the learning resource. We only use the name and email address to allow us to respond to the questions or comments by email. We use this feedback to improve present and future learning resources. We would not pass on or publish the feedback in any way without first gaining approval from the user who submitted the message.

  • Question submission form on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page. In this form we ask for a user’s name, email address, the subject of the enquiry and the enquiry itself (text only), so that we can receive and respond to questions. We only use the name and email address to allow us to respond by email to the question. We may publish the question (as long as it contains no PII) along with our answer to help other users, only if the user who submitted the question agrees. If published on the FAQ page, the question would not be associated in any way with the user who submitted it.

These contact forms are the only part of this website that electronically collect PII (Personally Identifiable Information). We will never sell or lease your personal information to any third parties. We will not pass on your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so.

Personal data and your rights

The only PII (Personally Identifiable Information) that this website collects is via the contact forms mentioned above. If you would like to see the personal data we hold about you (known as a Subject Access Request) please email privacy@francis-bacon.com. We will supply information within one month. There will be no charge for supplying the data. We will only refuse requests that are manifestly unfounded or excessive; in such cases the user will be informed within one month.

If you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, email us as soon as possible at privacy@francis-bacon.com. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.

How long we keep the information you send to us

We keep messages sent to privacy@francis-bacon.com or social@francis-bacon.com (our email address used for our social media channels – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for a maximum of six months, unless you request that we delete the information within six months.

Contact form messages and direct email enquiries sent to mail@francis-bacon.com will be kept for up to five years, unless you request that we delete the information within five years. This longer retention period is necessary due to the complexity of some requests. For instance, if answering an enquiry requires research, or if the enquiry is dependent on events that are organised over a longer time period, such as exhibitions.

Monthly email newsletter

If you subscribe to our monthly email newsletter, we will not use the personal information you provide (name and email address) for any other purpose. If you have signed up for our monthly email newsletter, you have the option of unsubscribing at any time, using the ‘unsubscribe’ link provided in each email.

Links to other websites

Our website contains links to other websites connected with Francis Bacon. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to such websites.

Changes to our privacy policy

Any changes we may make to our privacy policy in the future will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you by email.
