Francis Bacon's Two Studies for a Self-Portrait, 1970, will be publicly exhibited for free by Sotheby's in London, and then in New York, ahead of the piece's New York auction at Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Auction.
The work has only previously been publicly exhibited twice before, at Bacon's 1971 Paris Grand Palais retrospective, and in 1993 at London's Marlborough Fine Art.
The travelling exhibition in London commences on 9 April through to 13 April at Sotheby's New Bond Street address. Two Studies for a Self-Portrait then travels to Sotheby's New York to be exhibited at their 1334 York Ave address on select days from 29 April through to 11 May. Please refer to Sotheby's auction website for more details including full dates and times.*
If planning to attend the exhibitions of Francis Bacon's work, we strongly recommend first checking with the exhibition hosts, in this case Sotheby's, as all exhibition details are subject to change.
